Detour will be in effect
STATE COLLEGE – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announces that work to replace another bridge on Route 1002 in Centre County will begin April 6.
An official detour around the project will also start at that time. The bridge spans Little Marsh Creek in Curtin Township, east of the Curtin/Boggs Township line.
The bridge is currently posted for “one truck at a time” and replacement will allow PennDOT to remove it from Centre County’s structurally deficient list. The 36-foot bridge was originally built in 1933 and carries an average of 260 vehicles daily.
This is the second Marsh Creek Bridge to be replaced since 2014. The bridge constructed last year is located west of the village of Romola.
The 21-mile detour that was used for last year’s project will be in place again. PennDOT’s official detour uses Route 1002 (Marsh Creek Road), Route 1001 (Howard Divide Road), Route 160, and Route 4007 (Moose Run Road). Drivers familiar with the area may use alternate routes.
Overall work includes removal of the old bridge, placement of the new bridge, paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. The new bridge will be a single span, concrete box-beam bridge. The new bridge is expected to open to traffic by mid-August.
Nestlerode Contracting Company Inc. of Lock Haven is the contractor for this $1.2 million job. Nestlerode was also the contractor for last year’s replacement job.
