HORTON TOWNSHIP – State police at Ridgway have released details regarding an alleged dispute that resulted in attempted suicides Monday night in Horton Township.
According to state police, a known male and female allegedly engaged in a verbal argument that escalated with physical contact. The male allegedly struck the female in the face multiple times with his fist and then fled the scene.
The female sustained serious injuries to her face and head. She was transported to DuBois Penn Highlands Hospital by ambulance, state police said. Prior to the arrival of state police and emergency personnel, the female attempted to harm herself.
State police said the female was subsequently transported to a trauma center by helicopter for treatment of her injuries.
State police canvased the area in search of the male. He was located operating a vehicle on Mount Church Road. When state police initiated a traffic stop, the male allegedly fled and drove his vehicle down an all-terrain vehicle trail in an attempt to avoid capture.
According to state police, the male was located a short time later in his vehicle. State police observed he had severely injured himself. The male, state police said, was taken into custody without further incident.
State police provided the male first-aid treatment until he was flown from the scene.
Charges are to be filed against the male for aggravated assault, simple assault, fleeing and eluding and other related offenses, state police said.
