DUBOIS – A DuBois man is accused of lying to police to get out of paying a restaurant bill.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office March 23, Richard Supenia, 51, 8 ½ N. Church St., DuBois, is charged by the DuBois City police with false identification to law enforcement and theft by deception.
According to the affidavit, officers were called to “The Hitching Post” in DuBois. Employees at the restaurant reported that a man, later identified as Supenia, had accumulated a bill for food and drinks in the amount of $35.46 and was refusing to pay.
Police spoke to Supenia, who appeared to the officers to be acting strangely. Supenia was adamant that he was not the person who had made the purchases and allegedly told the officers they “must have the wrong guy.”
The officers then asked Supenia to leave the business, as he was no longer welcome. Once outside, the officer asked Supenia for his identification. Supenia allegedly told the police that he did not have identification on him.
The officer then told Supenia that he was involved in an official police investigation and if he gives a false name or identification, he could be brought up on charges.
Supenia then allegedly identified himself as “Mark Zazworsky” and provided a false date of birth. He then allegedly gave his address as 8 ½ N. Church St., DuBois, and allegedly recited the first five digits of his driver’s license number, before telling the officer he couldn’t remember the rest.
The employees told police they would need to speak to the business’s owners to find out if they would want to press charges before pursuing the theft and Supenia was released.
However, before the officers could leave the business, an employee provided a job application Supenia allegedly completed earlier that evening. The application was in the name of “Richard Supenia.”
The officers located Supenia, who was walking along Liberty Boulevard, and confronted him about the discrepancy. Supenia allegedly denied having given a false identification and said Richard Supenia must be another person who lived at 8 ½ N. Church St.
The officers checked information on JNET and located a driver’s license in the name of Richard Supenia and the photograph is that of the individual who told police he was “Mark Zazworsky.
