Frederick W. Granlun, 85, of Philipsburg died Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home.
Born March 4, 1930 in Luthersburg, he was a son of the late Walter S. and Frances (Womer) Granlun.
He was a 1948 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. He retired from Penelec, Shawville.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Philipsburg. He was also a member of church council.
A corporal in the U.S Army, he served during the Korean War.
Mr. Granlun was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Moshannon Lodge No. 391 of Philipsburg; the B.P.O. Elk Lodge No. 1173 of Philipsburg; the Fraternal Order of Police Bald Eagle Lodge; the Clearfield Moose; and the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. Mr. Granlun was a former member of the Philipsburg Kiwanis.
He was a long-time financial secretary and past president of the Hope Fire Company. He was a past president of the Central District Fireman’s Association, a past president and board member of Philipsburg Borough Council, a board member of the Philipsburg Cemetery; and a volunteer for many years for the Philipsburg Heritage Days.
Mr. Granlun enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
On Oct. 15, 1954 in State College, he married Jane Stewart (Lathers) Granlun, who survives at home.
Also surviving are two sons, Brad Granlun and John Granlun and his fiancée, Julie Adomis, all of Philipsburg; a sister, Betty Lou Gonta of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Alex Granlun, Birgitta Elizabeth Granlun and Amanda Nicole Granlun.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Kohn.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Fowler officiating.
Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. and an Elks memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., both Tuesday at the funeral home.
