DUBOIS – A DuBois man is facing charges for attempting to illegally obtain firearms.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office March 3, Dennis Charles Lemons, 36, 681 W. Long Ave., DuBois, is charged by the DuBois City police with illegal sale of a firearm and unsworn falsification to authorities.
According to the affidavit, on Jan. 5, officers received a request for a criminal investigation from the state police in reference to an attempt to illegally purchase a firearm at L.B. Toney’s Gun Shop.
The officers went to the gun shop and obtained a copy of the paperwork for the mandatory background check, which is conducted on all customers looking to purchase firearms.
On Oct. 23, Lemons completed the forms in an attempt to purchase a 12-gauge shotgun. While completing the forms, Lemons checked “no” for the question asking if he were a fugitive from justice.
A records check revealed Lemons has an active warrant through the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department in Florida for driving while his licenses is suspended or revoked. The records check also revealed that Lemons has been stopped for multiple traffic violations by the DuBois City police in May.
