CLEARFIELD – Engineer Todd Banks of Stiffler, McGraw and Associates Inc. updated the Clearfield Borough Council on the downtown Streetscape project at last night’s committee meeting.
Banks said he attended a preconstruction meeting with the state Department of Transportation and M&B Services LLC of Clarion, the construction company awarded the bid for the streetscape project. M&B plans to begin construction on March 30, he said.
Banks reported that the contractor is presently conducting site studies, and a utility coordination meeting is scheduled for next week.
Leslie Stott, borough operations manager, added that the borough will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to open the $3 million project.
Borough Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack reported that demolition of the four buildings in preparation for the Clearfield Riverfront project was completed and went very well.
The building at the previous Tool Shed site on West Market Street is the location for a proposed 40- to 50-room boutique hotel.
Three structures on Water Street were also razed to accommodate a proposed commercial building that will include a restaurant, commercial offices, conference rooms and convention space.
Both sites will have access to the proposed riverwalk that will traverse both sides of the river between the Market Street and Nichols Street Bridges.
Mack said the Daisy Street house destroyed by fire last week will be razed as soon as possible.
Police Chief Vince McGinnis reported that two of his officers have completed their six-month probationary period. The Personnel Committee agreed to recommend they be moved to permanent employment status.
McGinnis also reported the police department had 391 incident reports for February.
The Public Works Committee recommended the approval of the spring clean-up schedule that will begin April 6.
A request for designating a 15-minute loading and unloading parking space at Sweet Art Bakery was tabled pending review.
Finance Committee Chair, Heather Bozovich, announced the borough received its liquid fuels grant, totaling $192,639.81.
Council adjourned to executive session to discuss property acquisition with no action to follow.
