A deputy U.S. marshal was killed in Louisiana on Tuesday while serving a warrant on a suspect wanted for a double homicide, authorities said.
The marshal was Josie Wells, 28, the coroner in East Baton Rouge Parish said. He was based in Mississippi, said U.S. Marshal Kevin Harrison.
Harrison and other officials weren’t disclosing details of the case other than the suspect’s name: Jamie Croom.
CNN affiliate WAFB reported Croom was wounded in the incident and was taken to a hospital. He was wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of a brother and sister in New Roads, Louisiana, in February, the station said.
Croom was on probation for firearms charges, CNN affiliate WBRZ reported.
