Goodyear has found a new way to power electric cars: the tires.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has unveiled a concept product, called BHO3, that “offers the possibility of charging the batteries of electric cars by transforming the heat generated by the rolling tire into electrical energy.”
Goodyear said the specially made tires can generate electricity “during normal driving conditions.”
The technology aims to address an obstacle faced by electric car companies like Tesla: the limited range of their vehicles before needing a recharge.
Goodyear made the announcement at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show.
The company also announced a new tire called “triple tube,” which automatically adjusts its own air pressure based on road conditions.
