PHILIPSBURG – A 61-year-old Philipsburg man, Charles E. Merrell Jr., has been jailed after he allegedly entered the Dollar General Store in Philipsburg under the influence of alcohol, urinated on merchandise and resisted arrest on Thursday.
According to the incident report, state police received information about a male, Merrell, entering the Dollar General Store under the influence of alcohol. He allegedly went to the back of the store where he urinated on merchandise stored there.
Additionally, Merrell allegedly opened up a side door, which activated a store alarm. He was taken into custody upon arrival of state police. State police then initiated the processing of non-traffic citations for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct and to release him.
While the state trooper was attempting to make contact with an acquaintance of Merrell, he allegedly became combative. He allegedly kicked the state trooper in the legs numerous times. The state trooper, however, was able to gain control of Merrell and place him into handcuffs, according to the report.
Merrell was taken to the Centre County Booking Center and arraigned on two counts of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, public drunkenness and resisting arrest. He was remanded to the Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, state police said.
