Doris V. Short, 87, formerly of DuBois, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at Brookside Assisted Living in Brookville.
Born March 8, 1927 in Red Bank Township, she was the daughter of the late Ruben and Earnestine (Crawford) Buffington.
On Oct. 20, 1946, she married Bernal A. “Bunny” Short. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2000.
She was a homemaker. She had worked at Rola Jensen in DuBois. Prior to that, she had worked at JC Penney on Brady Street for many years. She was also an AVON representative in the DuBois area for many years.
She attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she was the starting catcher on the fast-pitch softball team.
She was a past member of the order of the Eastern Star and the Amaranth. She enjoyed traveling, going to garage sales and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Valerie L. Coffey and her husband, Dan of Seattle, Wash., and David J. “Jake” Short Sr. and his wife, Sue and Bernal W. ”Bud” Short and his partner, Debora Fulkerson, both of DuBois; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William E. Buffington.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc. A celebration of life service will announced at a later date.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
