The Qatar 2022 World Cup should be played in November and December, a FIFA task force has recommended.
Football’s global governing body has been exploring alternatives to the tournament’s traditional June and July dates to avoid the extreme heat in the Gulf state at that time of year.
The task force, headed by Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa also suggested the 2022 competition should be shortened.
The proposal to move football’s showpiece event to the European winter is likely to be met with disapproval by the continent’s top club teams.
The month of December is traditionally hectic in the English Premier League, while there would also be knock-on effects for other major leagues in Spain, Germany, Italy and France.
