David P. Rabold, 84, of Houtzdale died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 at Valley View Nursing Home in Altoona.
Born Aug. 8, 1930 in Altoona, he was the son of David Henry Kinch Rabold and Anna (McNamara) Rabold.
He was a graduate of Altoona High School and Penn State University. He retired from the National Guard.
He was a member of the Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591 and the Houtzdale Loyal Order of Moose No. 327.
He was employed in the music department for the Moshannon Valley School District until his retirement.
He loved music and had played the accordion since the age of seven. He played in numerous bands, including the 3 D’s, Polka bands, 14 Street Jazz Band and the Army National Guard 28th Division Band. He was an accomplished musician and soloist.
He is survived by his companion, Annaeliese Travis; two sons, Mark Rabold of Warren, Mich., and Scott Rabold of Port Richey, Fla.; three daughters, Pam Culpepper of Hobe Sound, Fla., Lisa Stitely of Chambersburg and Jennifer Wolfe of Bellwood; and two step-children, Frank Kutzer and Mark Kutzer.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Garrett Rabold, Kimberly Wolfe, Derrick Wolfe, Bobby Rabold, Autumn Damiano, Marissa Damiano and Dominic Damiano; two step-grandchildren, Lucus Williams and Brandon Williams; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline (Kutzer) Rabold; three sisters, Betty Quirin, Helen Rabold and Cora Mae Rabold; and a step-daughter, Valerie Casale.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc. with Father Marc Solomon officiating.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
