JONES TOWNSHIP – Two Wilcox women were killed in a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer Thursday at the intersection of state Route 219 and SR 321 in Jones Township, reported the state police at Ridgway.
State police identified the women as Vera Johnson, 81, and her passenger, Rose Swanson, 92, both of Wilcox. Both women were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Upon investigation state police determined that Johnson was traveling south on SR 219. Steven Kilduff, 37, of Brookville was traveling north on SR 219 in his tractor-trailer. As both approached the intersection with SR 321, Johnson failed to stop at a posted sign.
Johnson continued to travel into the path of the tractor-trailer; Kilduff attempted to avoid impacting the Johnson vehicle with negative results, state police said. State police said that as a result of the accident, SR 321 was closed for approximately four hours at the intersection.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Wilcox Fire Department, PennDOT and the Elk County Coroner’s Office.
