Mark B. McCracken has announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of Clearfield County Commissioner on the Democratic ballot.
Reviewing recent accomplishments, McCracken noted the completion of the 10-year county solid waste plan, efforts to keep county budget expenses in line with available revenues and projects to maintain and update county government facilities. Good fiscal management of recent county budgets has significantly reduced the county’s debt and has allowed property taxes to remain at the same rate since 2010.
Serving on the five-member Retirement Board, McCracken was one of three members that voted to coordinate investments under one advisor. This decision along with updating investment policies has seen the value of the county employee retirement fund grow from $18 million in 2010 to almost $31 million at the end of 2014. Clearfield County’s retirement fund is rated as “very well-funded” by actuarial standards.
For the future, McCracken will continue to invest in the county 9-1-1 system to assist emergency responders, provide services required for the county’s veteran population and continue to grow the county tourism grant program, which helps events like the Clearfield County Fair, DuBois Community Days, Curwensville Days and other tourism-related projects.
McCracken serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania Counties Health Insurance Purchasing Cooperative, as secretary of Central Pennsylvania Community Action Board of Directors and is chairman of the Penn Ag Democrats.
McCracken stated, “My main goal for managing Clearfield County Government is to work with officials of the courts, row officers and department directors to provide the best service for the citizens of the county.”
McCracken resides with his wife, Kelly and daughter, Amanda in Lawrence Township.
