SHEFFIELD – After a tough home court loss on Friday to Johnsonburg 51-38, the Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team took its frustration out on Sheffield Tuesday night on the Lady Wolverines home floor, 63-36.
The Lady Tide completely dominated Sheffield with a whopping 39-9 bulge at the half, and from there, coasted to it’s 11th win of the season.
All-time Curwensville leading basketball scorer, senior Ciara Strickland, poured in 29 points that included connecting for three three-pointers. Strickland, at this time, is also the season-leading scorer in all of District 9.
Sophomore Hannah Dixon added 16 tallies to assist the Lady Tide offense.
Senior guard Heather Thorp added 14 assists for the Tide, while sophomore Christine Limbert pulled down 12 rebounds in the win for Curwensville.
The Lady Wolverines were led on offense by Tierra Hansen, who had 13 points.
Sheffield won the junior varsity game over the Lady Tide by a final score of 30-27. Nichole Warmuth had 14 points for Curwensville.
There will be no rest for the Lady Tide (11-6) as they travel to Flinton on Wednesday night to battle the Glendale girls. Curwensville defeated the Lady Vikings in Curwensville, in late January, 50-33.
The game will be part of a basketball doubleheader at Glendale on Wednesday night with the Curwensville boys playing a varsity game only, starting at 4:30 pm, against the Vikings. The Tide stopped Glendale in mid-January in their first encounter, 53-50.
The Lady Tide and Lady Vikings will then follow immediately with junior varsity and varsity contests.
