WESTOVER – With a 38-21 halftime lead for the Curwensville boys basketball team Wednesday night against Harmony, all looked good for the Golden Tide.
Not so fast though, as the Owls outscored Curwensville 19-4 in the first eight minutes of the second half to pull within two points, 42-40, at the end of three periods.
Curwensville would settle down, however, winning the final period 20-6 to pick up the Moshannon Valley League (MVL)Â win, 62-46.
The victory gives the Tide a season record of 5-11 and 4-3 in MVL play and breaks a three-game losing streak,  including the last two losses in overtime.
The Golden Tide won the first time the two teams tangled, in early December, at Curwensville, by a score of 52-43.
Curwensville had a balanced scoring night with four players in double figures with Jake Terry leading the way scoring 16 points, which included hitting four three-pointers.
Noah Strickland had the best offensive night of his career with 14 points, followed by Trey Rauckhorst with 12 and Alex Hill chipping in with 10 for the Golden Tide.
Harmony was paced on offense by Logan Sral hitting for 17 and Cody Fritz pouring in 16 and fell to 0-4 in the Moshannon Valley League.
The Owls were 14 of 16 from the free throw line while the Tide connected on nine of 12.
The Golden Tide also won the junior varsity game, 44-37. Zach Marshall had 18 and Quamone Newkirk tossed in 12 for the Tide.
Curwensville travels to Johnsonburg on Friday night to battle the Rams. The JV game will tip-off at 6 pm and the varsity will immediately follow.
The Tide lost to the Rams 40-38 earlier this month at home in one of the many tough losses for Curwensville this season.
