WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“In the short time since the beginning of the 114th Congress, the House has passed a series of bipartisan bills that will strengthen the economy, increase energy security, deter unlawful immigration and expand opportunities for working families and veterans.
“The President communicated that he intends to play a more constructive role in this work, and I commend him for addressing areas where there may be potential for cooperation with Congress.
“The President would best serve the American people by listening to the will of their elected representatives and showing a sign of good faith in the year ahead by signing into law the bipartisan bills that will undoubtedly be piling up on his desk.”
Legislation that has passed the House with bipartisan support since the beginning of the 114th Congress:
- Passage of the Hire More Heroes Act (H.R. 22). H.R. 22, which lifts the burden on small businesses so they can hire more veterans without penalties, passed the House on Jan. 6 by a vote of 412-0.
- Passage of the Keystone XL Pipeline Project (H.R. 3). H.R. 3, which approves a critical energy infrastructure project that will inject billions into the American economy over the life-span of its construction and support job creation across the country, including in Pennsylvania, passed the House on Jan. 14 by a vote of 266-153.
- Passage of the Save American Workers Act (H.R. 30).H.R. 30, legislation repealing the Affordable Care Act’s 30-hour work-week definition, which is forcing wage reductions for American workers as companies and organizations have found the mandate unworkable and unaffordable, passed the House on Jan. 8 by a vote of 252-172.
