One person was dead and two others injured Saturday during a shooting at a central Florida mall, Melbourne police Commander Vince Price said.
The alleged gunman was the lone fatality in the shooting at Melbourne Square Mall, Price said. The injured were taken to a local hospital; their condition was unknown.
Price said the “situation is contained” and the mall was closed.
“There’s no additional danger to the public,” Price said.
A witness said gunfire erupted in the food court and two people were injured before the gunman shot himself, CNN affiliate WESH reported.
Another tweet from police said officers were “clearing the mall store by store.”
A caller to 911 reported the shooting at about 9:30 a.m., police said.
Five or six shots were fired, according to the witness, WESH reported. The mall was closed for the day; employees were leaving through back doors.
