James H. Bordas, 72, of the village of Hudson, Philipsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at his residence after suffering from a short battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 8, 1942 in Scotch Hollow, RD Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Bordas and Christine (Botwright) Bordas Buell.
He married the former Victoria “Vickie” Butterworth on Nov. 3, 1962 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; she survives at home.
Mr. Bordas was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, where he had formerly served as a cantor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council No. 8701, in Morrisdale and a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Pope John Paul II Assembly No. 952, in Clearfield.
He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 1173 in Philipsburg. He was a past chief and former paramedic of the Chester Hill Hose Co.
From the late 1970’s into the early 1980’s, Mr. Bordas had been employed as an officer with the former Philipsburg Police Department. He was also employed for many years as an over-the-road truck driver with a number of area companies, including the former Classic Motor Lines and most recently with T.L. Bainey Inc. of West Decatur.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bordas is survived by four daughters, Faith Ann Maguire and her husband, Joel and Patience Bailey and her husband, Brian, both of Philipsburg, and Hope C. Wrye and Charity Granville and her husband, Tom, both of Hudson, RD Philipsburg, and a son, James J. “Jimmie Joe” Bordas and his wife, Kari of Hudson, RD Philipsburg.
He’s survived by a sister, Elaine Persio of Ebensburg and three brothers, Arthur Bordas and his wife, Laura, John Bordas and his wife, Sandra and Barry Bordas, all of Philipsburg.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law, Merle Butterworth of Chester Hill.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly as celebrant. Burial will be at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Philipsburg.
