George “Don” “Gabby” Williams Sr., 85, of West Decatur died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at his residence.
Born Aug. 24, 1929 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Theodore M. and Jane H. (Grannis) Williams. He was a member of the former Woodland Methodist Church.
Mr. Williams was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for C.V. Fink & Son Coal Co., Green & Winston Construction and J.M. Stott Coal Co. He was a member of the CB Club and D.O.R.A. (Drivers Only Racing Association).
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
On Feb. 19, 1949 in Woodland, he married Mary Jane (Lonjin) Williams, who survives at home.
Surviving are four children, George D. “Peach” Williams Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Morrisdale, James Daniel “Pear” Williams and his wife, Pamela of Mineral Springs, Diana Schwab and her husband, Wayne of Mill Hall and Doyle Marshall “Dude” Williams of West Decatur.
Also surviving are a brother, Theodore R. Williams and his wife, Mary Ann of Munson; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dennis Williams; a daughter, Darlene Candelaria; and two brothers, Alvin Williams and Charles G. Williams.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with Sam Maines officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.
Friends will be received form 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
