Former President George H.W. Bush is out of the Houston-area hospital where he spent the Christmas holiday, a spokesman said Tuesday.
“President Bush was released from the Houston Methodist Hospital today. He is now resting at home, grateful to the doctors and nurses for their superb care,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.
Bush was hospitalized one week ago in what aides described as a precautionary measure after he experienced shortness of breath. His office said his breathing had returned to normal by Monday.
The 90-year-old Bush was the nation’s 41st president, and the father of former President George W. Bush. He was a Navy pilot who was shot down over the Pacific Ocean in World War II — and has become known in his post-presidency for marking his 75th, 80th, 85th and 90th birthdays with parachute jumps.
He was hospitalized for two months in late 2012 for bronchitis, and aides have said his prognosis this year has been much better than it was then.
