Vera L. ”Weez” Smith, 84, of Clearfield died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
She was born June 8, 1930 in Pottersdale, a daughter of the late William Isaac and Kathryn Jane (Michaels) Showden.
Mrs. Smith was formerly employed at Eastern Molded, Shortway Products and County Market in the bakery. She will be remembered for her flowers, sitting on the porch and preparing the holiday meals. Her favorite pastime was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Shirey and her husband, Dennis of Clearfield and a daughter-in-law, Marianne (Hoover) Moore of Grampian.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Robert D. Smith Jr. of Rochester, NY, Jacqueline Smith Levine and her husband, David of Olanta, Kendi Jo Kester and her husband, Bryan of Springville, NY, DeAnn L. Marshall and her husband, Paul of Houtzdale, Dr. Kari Ann Shirey of Baltimore, Md., Shane Nevling and his fiancée, Clarissa of Clearfield, Shawn Nevling and his wife, Alicia of Curwensville and nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa Marshall of Morrisdale, Cody Marshall of Houtzdale, Gabrielle and Ryan Kester, both of Springville, NY, Daphne Nevling of Brisbin and Skyler, Dakota, Shawna, and Ryanna Nevling, all of Curwensville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Smith, whom she wed Nov. 18, 1949 in Pottersdale.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Smith Sr.; two sisters, Dorothy Luzier and Madaline Stahlman; six brothers, Ira, Lewis, Donald, Isaac, John and Robert Showden; and two nieces, Esther Hubler and Barbara Gosney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
