Wilbert G. Lundgren, MD, 86, of DuBois died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at the home of his daughter. Born Oct. 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Wilbert C. and Genevieve (Harber) Lundgren.
In 1952, he married Ann P. (Albert) Lundgren. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Dr. Lundgren served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School and of the Pennsylvania State University. He then graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He began his residency at Dartmouth University Hospital and finished at York Hospital.
Dr. Lundgren returned to his hometown to practice medicine. He became the first board-certified general surgeon in DuBois with a career spanning 30 years and touching the lives of generations in his community.
He was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wildlife Habitat Unlimited and Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed fly fishing with dry flies. He was an avid wrestling fan and long-time team physician for the DuBois Area High School wrestling team.
Dr. Lundgren is survived by his children, Susanne Morelli of Penfield, Eric Lundgren, MD, and his wife, Lauren of DuBois, John Lundgren and his wife, Sarah of Winchester, Va., and Paula Lundgren, MD, and her husband, Tom DeMark of Belmont, NC; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gail Lundgren, Ph.D., and Kathryn Hand; his son-in-law, Pete Morelli; and his long-time companion, Ruth Nichol.
There will be no public visitation and a private family burial will be held.
A public memorial service from the Lakeside United Methodist Church will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
