CLEARFIELD – A burglary suspect accused of stealing guns from a Bigler Township residence in June waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Tyler Joel Wetzel, 28, (hometown not given) has been charged with burglary; conspiracy/burglary; and seven counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Wetzel allegedly kicked in the front door to a Dutchtown Road residence in Bigler Township on June 1. A female also entered the residence with Wetzel.
Once inside Wetzel allegedly removed a 30/30 Winchester lever action rifle valued at $800; a Remington 30.06 rifle valued at $600; a Remington 12-gauge shotgun valued at $300; a Remington 22 rifle valued at $300; a Winchester 300 Magnum rifle valued at $700; a 12-gauge shotgun valued at $800; a Play Station 3 game with accessories; a vehicle battery pack; and two buck knives.
Afterward Wetzel and the female allegedly went to the Hunter’s Warehouse in Bellefonte where he sold the two buck knives for $35 each. They allegedly went to GameStop in Mill Hall where Wetzel sold the Play Station game and accessories. They also allegedly went to a residence where Wetzel sold four of the guns for cash.
In an interview with state police, the female admitted that she was with Wetzel on June 1 and he threatened her with a gun to make her assist with the burglary. She said that Wetzel kicked in the front door and he removed the aforementioned items to sell for cash.
The female noted to state police that Wetzel wore latex gloves when he committed the burglary and left part of one inside the victim’s residence. It was noted by state police that part of a latex glove was found at the scene and sent for DNA analysis.
