Duncan, SC (WHNS) — A 20-year-old Duncan man is getting a lot of love this holiday season from strangers around the world.
Dusty Hardee, who suffered a stroke at birth and is autistic, has had Christmas cards flooding in since the Facebook page Cards for Dusty was created.
A friend of his set up the page and put the message out there that Dusty would like to receive notes and letters from around the world.
And it worked.
On Monday, they were at the Duncan post office where they loaded up four trays with cards and letters.
“You’ve got one from Australia, and Hawaii, and Alaska yesterday. This is crazy, they are coming from everywhere. I don’t know. I guess it is because he wanted to give his Christmas money to help other people, people are just drawn to his goodness. He wants friends. And now he says every card he gets is a friend,” Dusty’s mother, Patti Lindsey, said.
Dusty plans to pay the kindness he’s received forward by adopting angels through the Angel Tree program and will send his cards along to St. Jude’s where they will be used to make new cards for next year while the envelopes will be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project for a therapy program.
