State police at Clearfield
- An incident of theft, fraud and forgery occurred sometime between Nov. 28 and Wednesday on Emery Avenue in Houtzdale. During the incident, someone allegedly gained access to a legitimate business, MSJ Contractor LLC of New Jersey, and obtained a fraudulent check. They subsequently sent the check in the amount for a four-wheeler that was being purchased with shipping from the victim. The victim received the check, opened a checking account and deposited the check; the victim took the amount to cover shipping and sent it by money order. However, police said the check returned as fraudulent. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police at Clearfield at 814-857-3800.
Clearfield Borough
- Police assisted a resident with unlocking a vehicle on Martin Street.
- Police responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Clearfield County Courthouse. Upon arrival police met with the sheriff’s office and found it was a false alarm.
- Police received a report about lost property and determined the incident was civil in nature.
- Police learned about an alleged fraud incident that occurred when a male tried to sell all-terrain vehicle tires online. Further, someone allegedly contacted him and then mailed a check for double the amount. The male was allegedly asked for the check to be cashed and the remainder of the money returned.
- Police received a report regarding a child custody issue. The caller was referred to the appropriate agencies.
Lawrence Township
- Police received a report about an alleged protection from abuse order violation.
- Police received a report that was civil in nature and referred the caller to the magistrate’s office.
- Police received a report about a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 879 and Wolf Run Road. Three passengers were transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons; no towing was required due to the accident, police said.
- Police received a parking complaint at a residence along Legion Road.
- Police recovered a firearm and holster in the parking lot of a township business. Further, police located the owner of the firearm, which has been returned.
- Police received a report about a suspicious vehicle at a business on River Road.
- Police received a report about another suspicious vehicle at a local business.
Curwensville Borough
- Police received a report about an alleged incident of harassment by communications on Thursday.
- Police received a report about an ongoing noise complaint in the area of Susquehanna Avenue and Schofield Street. Extra patrols will be provided to the area, police said.
- Police received a report about an alleged incident of harassment that occurred Sunday in the area of Bloomington Avenue.
- Police assisted with a mental health crisis at the Curwensville Commons.
- Police received a report about a Dodge Ram truck that allegedly sustained damage while it was parked in the area of Thompson Street.
DuBois City
- While on patrol Wednesday, police observed the operator of a silver Dodge van swerving and crossing into the opposite lane of traffic on Division Street. Upon investigation police conducted a traffic stop on the van on East DuBois Avenue and determined the operator was intoxicated. The operator was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI with charges currently pending at this time.
- Police received a 9-1-1 hang-up call Wednesday at a business in the 800 block of Beaver Drive. Upon arrival police found someone called because an elderly person had fallen inside the business. However, the person was found to be OK and police weren’t any longer needed at the scene.
- On Thursday, police were dispatched to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of East DuBois Avenue and Division Street. Upon arrival police found the operator of a Chevrolet Tahoe was stopped at a red light on East DuBois Avenue. At the same time, the operator of a Buick Lucerne was stopped behind it; however, the operator of a Chevrolet Impala was unable to stop and struck the Buick. The Buick was subsequently pushed forward into the rear of the Tahoe. No injuries were reported and towing wasn’t required, police said.
- On Thursday, police received a report about a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Railroad Avenue. Further, police were advised that a semi-truck’s trailer struck a Crown Victoria after which both vehicles fled the scene. Upon investigation police made contact with both operators and assisted with the exchange of information.
Sandy Township
- An 18-year-old Dixon Avenue boy lost control of his vehicle Wednesday on Game Lands Road, causing it to overturn and come to rest over an embankment. The boy left the scene and later went to Penn Highlands for injuries he sustained in the accident. He also reported that he had a passenger in the vehicle, but she was uninjured and got another ride home.
- On Wednesday, a Treasure Lake resident reported that her estranged husband was harassing her and her son.
- A Reynoldsville woman failed to stop in time to avoid hitting a vehicle driven by a Pittsburgh woman who was stopped in traffic Wednesday on the Bee Line Highway. No injuries and minor to moderate damage were reported, police said.
- Police received a report about a false alarm Wednesday at a Forest Avenue residence.
- On Wednesday, Wal-Mart employees reported viewing a female enter the store and put two air purifiers in a cart. She allegedly gave the cart to a male who went to customer service and fraudulently returned them. The woman then allegedly went back through the store and gathered more items and fraudulently returned them. The incident, police said, remains under investigation at this time.
- A school bus driver missed a stop on Tipp Street on Wednesday, at which time he stopped and then proceeded to back up. He subsequently hit a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old DuBois man. Minor injuries and severe damage were reported, police said.
- A 35-year-old Sykesville woman hit a deer while traveling on Wednesday on South Main Street in the area of Kiwanis Trail. Minor to moderate damage and no injuries were reported, police said.
- A 30-year-old man and 22-year-old woman, both of South Brady Street, were seen by Wal-Mart employees taking several items from the store and concealing them in order to leave without paying. Charges are currently pending at this time, police said.
