(CNN) — President Barack Obama said he’s spoken to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday and commended him for handling peaceful protests across his city, in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner.
“[We’ve] seen unfortunately in recent days [with] our criminal justice system too many Americans feel deep unfairness when it comes to the gap between our professed ideals and how the laws are applied on a day-to-day basis,” Obama said Wednesday speaking at the Summit on College Opportunity at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington.
