Man Gets State Prison in Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Philadelphia man was sentenced to state prison for assaulting a man near the Penn State University DuBois campus.
Jovan Brown, 26, 3301 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia was found guilty by Judge Paul Cherry of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and disorderly conduct after a bench trial in September.
School Van Driver Accused of Smoking Marijuana Pleads Guilty
CLEARFIELD – A driver who was allegedly smoking marijuana while in a school van pleaded guilty during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Geraldine E. Bratton, 44, 1814 Big Run Rd., Morrisdale, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, endangering the welfare of children, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless driving.
Houtzdale Man Jailed on Terroristic Threats Charges
HOUTZDALE – A 47-year-old Houtzdale man has been jailed on terroristic threats charges, reported the state police at Clearfield today.
On Sunday, state police received a 302 warrant from Clearfield-Jefferson Mental Health for Brian E. Burfield, 47, of Houtzdale. Burfield had allegedly directed numerous threats towards four victims.
WJAC-TV: Grand Jury Won’t Indict Ferguson Cop in Shooting
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) – A grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed, black 18-year-old whose fatal shooting sparked weeks of sometimes-violent protests.
St. Louis Country Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch announced the decision Monday evening.
Preparation, Flexibility Urged Ahead of Potential Storm during Holiday Travel Period
HARRISBURG – With weather forecasts calling for potential wintry mixes or accumulating snow on Wednesday, PennDOT is urging drivers to be prepared and change travel plans if necessary.
“We all want to visit our friends and families this Thanksgiving, but I urge all motorists to be prepared for potential winter road conditions and consider altering travel if necessary,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. “Our first priority should be to arrive safely, even if it takes more time to reach our destinations.”
Collection Under Way for Clearfield County Food Pantries
CLEARFIELD – Aaron’s of Clearfield will hold a food drive for Central Pennsylvania Community Action’s (CPCA) Clearfield County Food Pantries through Dec. 13.
As part of its Community Outreach Program, anyone may drop off food to donate to the food pantries at Aaron’s and or Save-A-Lot located in the Clearfield Plaza.
PennDOT Invites Private Industry to Submit Qualifications for CNG Fueling Station Project
HARRISBURG – The state’s Public-Private Transportation Partnership Office is inviting the private sector to submit their qualifications to compete for the opportunity to develop clean-burning compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations at public transit agencies around the state that would also be available for use by the public.

DUBOIS – During the public comments section of the DuBois City Council meeting last night, Darlene Marshall asked again for a letter of support in opposing a recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit to Windfall Oil and Gas Inc. for a proposed disposal injection well near Highland Street Extension.
DuBois Man Accused of Sexual Assault
DUBOIS – A 20-year-old DuBois man, Brandon Ryan Runyon, has been accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in July, reported the DuBois City police today.
According to the report, while on patrol in the early hours on July 8, police encountered the alleged victim who was intoxicated and being assisted with walking home. Upon investigation police found a man had sexual contact with her.
State Police Offer Steps to Combat Child Abduction
RIDGWAY – Child abduction not only occurs in big cities, but also in small towns. Although abductions have become less frequent, parents must remain vigilant to prevent them, according to Trooper Bruce Morris of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Woman Accused of Filling Prescriptions for Incarcerated Father Waives Hearing
DUBOIS – A Reynoldsville woman accused of filling prescriptions for her incarcerated father waived her right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court at District Judge Patrick Ford’s office.
Amber Nicole Meredith, 28, 114 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, is charged with acquire or obtain possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, 14 counts of procure for self/other drug by fraud and 14 counts of procure for self/other drug by concealment of fact. Her bail was set at $2,500, unsecured.
Home Invasion Suspects to Stand Trial
DUBOIS – Two people accused of invading an elderly couple’s home have waived their rights to preliminary hearings.
Nathan R. Bowser, 23, 216 Jefferson St., Brookville, and Jacquelynn N. Primm, 21, 523 South Ave., DuBois are charged with robbery, criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking for this crime. They are also facing charges for breaking into the same home in September. For this they are charged with burglary, criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking. They remain in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of a total of $75,000 bail for each of them.
While waiting for her case to be processed, Primm could be heard crying and repeating, “I didn’t do it” and “I wouldn’t do that to an old person.”
Kesner Addresses Wal-Mart Tax Decision
CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday, Solicitor Kim Kesner addressed the Clearfield County Commissioners’ appeal of the county’s Tax Appeals Board’s decision to reduce the tax assessments of the Wal-Mart Supercenters in Clearfield and DuBois.
Commissioners OK Tentative Budget Without Tax Increase
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved the tentative 2015 budget without any tax increase.
The county’s budget proposal maintains real estate taxes at 18.5 mills. The millage rate has been 18.5 mills since 2011, according to previous GantDaily.com reports.
