WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) has announced a Community Outreach Open House to highlight economic opportunities associated with the East Branch Dam Cutoff Wall Rehabilitation Project that will be held in Ridgway on Nov. 20 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Initiated by Thompson’s office, in cooperation with Layne Christensen Company, the general contractor for the project, and hosted by the North Central PA Regional Planning & Development Commission, the event is open to the public.

“The Community Outreach Open House is geared towards the residents of Ridgway and the surrounding areas to learn more about potential economic opportunities associated with the East Branch Dam rehabilitation project,” stated Thompson.

The event will include representatives from Layne Christensen Company, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Small Business Development Centers, Pennsylvania CareerLink, and both North Central PA Commission PTAC and Northwest PA Commission PTAC.

“For individuals seeking employment and local small businesses interested in opportunities, this is an open forum for those individuals and companies to gather information and have their questions answered,” Thompson added.

The Community Outreach Open House will offer residents and businesses information on potential project employment opportunities, including where to find project job postings, Layne’s procurement process and prerequisites, how to register your small business with the SBA, among other project resources and opportunities.

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers awarded Layne Christensen a $132.5 million contract in August of 2014.  Work on the project, which is scheduled to commence in the early part of 2015, involves installing a concrete cut-off wall within the existing embankment and bedrock of the dam along with associated ancillary work to support this effort.
