ALTOONA – Marcus Luttrell, Navy SEAL and author of the 2007 No. New York Times best-selling book, Lone Survivor, will speak at Penn State Altoona as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. The event is Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Adler Athletic Complex gymnasium.
Lone Survivor tells the story of Luttrell and his three SEAL comrades who journeyed into the mountainous border of Afghanistan and Pakistan on their fated mission, Operation Redwing.
A powerful testament to the courage, integrity and patriotism that forged these American heroes, Lone Survivor is an account of teamwork, fortitude and modern warfare. Having the life-defining events depicted by Luttrell himself, as the sole survivor of the mission, is as affecting and inspiring for readers as it is for the audiences.
In January, Luttrell’s story made the leap to the big screen with the blockbuster film, Lone Survivor, directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg as Luttrell.
Free tickets are available at the Penn State Altoona Bookstore, at the box office in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, and at the door on the evening of the program if not “sold out.”
The Penn State Altoona Distinguished Speaker Series is made possible by funding from the Division of Student Affairs, the Paul R. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Fund, the John and Ann Wolf Family Speakers Series Fund, the Sarah Simonton Endowment for Excellence and by the students at Penn State Altoona through the Student Activity Fee.
This program is presented by the Division of Student Affairs in conjunction with the academic divisions of Business and Engineering; Education, Health and Human Development, and Social Sciences; Mathematics and Natural Sciences; and Arts and Humanities as a service to the students, faculty, and administration of Penn State Altoona and our surrounding communities.
