Karen L. Spellen, 64, of DuBois died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born June 28, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Richard L. Powers Sr. and Shirley (Smith) Renwick. She was a 1968 graduate of the DuBois Area High School.
On Sept. 30, 2000, she married James T. Spellen Sr. He survives.
Mr. Spellen retired from the Falls Creek Sheetz Travel Center after 18 years of service.
She was a member of the Sandy Hose Co. No. 1 and the Swedish American Club. She loved to read, do crafts and enjoyed playing the game “Words with Friends.”
She’s survived by her daughter, Katina Sweetman and her husband, Paul of Massachusetts; two step-children, James Spellen Jr. and his wife, Betsy and Melanie Spellen, both of DuBois; and seven grandchildren, Ronnie and Megan Marie Burkes, Kaitlin and Hayley Sweetman and Jacob, Ethan and Zachary Spellen.
She’s survived by six brothers, George Powers and his wife, Connie of Punxsutawney; Rick Powers and his wife, June, Randy Powers and his wife, Val and Michael Powers and his wife, Cynthia Ann, all of DuBois; Matthew Renwick of Cypress, Texas; and Wayne Renwick and his wife, Penny of Timlin and five sisters, Belinda Curley and Michelle Ross and her husband, Gary, both of DuBois; Melissa Powers of Virginia; Marilyn Jobes of Reynoldsville; and Carolyn Mains of Ligonier.
She’s also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her step-mother, Roxanne Powers.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard L. Powers Jr. and Charles Powers and an infant daughter, Rhonda Rene Burkes.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Sherwood officiating.
