The Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital has been awarded a $3 million economic growth initiative grant to provide improved health care services to area residents, according to Senator Jake Corman (R-34).
Corman, who worked to secure funding for the project, said the grant will be used for renovations to Lewistown Hospital’s Emergency Department, Radiology Department and Pain Clinic. Funds will also be used for the completion of construction of the Big Valley Area Medical Center in Belleville.
Funded through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), the grant will bring residents access to high-quality health care close to home and improve access to emergency services.
“This investment in Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital will not only provide more available and affordable care to area residents, but it will also help to preserve and create jobs and improve the local economy,” Corman said.
“By expanding and renovating the Big Valley Area Medical Center, Geisinger will also be able to create one convenient location for primary care, pharmacy, lab and imaging services, ensuring that patients do not need to travel long distances for their health care needs.”
Corman added that access to health care was a key concern identified in the 201 Mifflin-Juniata Community Needs Assessment.
“This project will address that concern by providing area residents with a more comprehensive array of services, faster access to vital emergency room services and improved care,” Corman said.
