BELLEFONTE – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that the application period for the Fiscal Year 2014 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program opens on Monday and will close Dec. 5.
“These are competitive grants that bolster emergency response operations in our local communities and improve overall public safety,” stated Thompson. “I would encourage eligible applicants to begin the application process as soon as possible.”
Since 2001, the AFG program has provided grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response and personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to improve emergency preparedness at the local level.
“FEMA has a variety of tools available to assist with the grant application process,” Thompson added. “As always, my staff and I are prepared to assist emergency service organizations in the 5th District in pursuing these opportunities.”
