CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Municipal Authority (CMA) has initiated an internal investigation into the suspected theft of services at an apartment building on East Locust Street, according to Kevin A. Shifter, manager.
“We don’t have all of the facts yet,” he said. “It’s just suspicion. It’s not like we’re just dropping this. We’re just trying to gather our own facts and information. We got to be able to prove it.”
Depending on its own findings, the CMA may re-engage Clearfield Borough police after the completion of its internal investigation, Shifter said.
According to a report from earlier today, the CMA contacted police about an apartment building on East Locust Street that it suspects may have a bypass installed on the waterline to avoid the water meter. The CMA told police that the meter has been showing that no water is being used by the owners.
The CMA told police it has contacted the owners who haven’t cooperated regarding the matter. The CMA also told police that it’s the third incident with the owners for installing bypasses on their waterline.
In their report, police noted that the CMA didn’t wish to pursue charges on the owner.
