Supply and demand rules the box office this weekend as moviegoers force themselves to sit through a horrible horror movie.
“This is where Debbie died.”
“I don’t think this is a good idea.”
Let me guess, you’re gonna do it anyway right? “Ouija” takes the number one spot at the box office this weekend stealing an estimated $20 million worth of movie tickets over the weekend.
I say stealing because I’m sure ticket buyers across the country didn’t plan on hating the movie.
YOUTUBE / JEREMY JAHNS: “Aw, man. It felt like 3 hours long. It was an hour and half!”
YOUTUBE / WHAT THE FLICK?!: “I saw this movie, I’ve already forgotten huge chunks of it.”
YOUTUBE / CHRIS STUCKMANN: “It sucked, It’s a movie about a board game okay?”
But good, bad or otherwise “Ouija” filled the Halloween season void giving the movie with a $5 million budget all its money back four-fold in just three days.
Coming in at number two,
“I’m not afraid of John Wick!”
“Uh huh.”
Keanu Reeves’ John Wick brought in an estimated $14 million over the weekend squeezing into second place but it is far and away the best movie critically in the top three.
And while “John Wick” the “The Equalizer” and “Taken” are all the same package with different bows The New York Times says, “John Wick” delivers on the age old story better than most.
“Harboring few ambitions beyond knock-your-socks-off action sequences, this crafty revenge thriller delivers … His journey may be a movie staple, but its execution here is near flawless.”
The thriller serves as a resurgence for Keanu Reeves who’s last big action flick, “47 Ronin” flopped, grossing $150 million worldwide and costing nearly $175 million to produce.
“Where’s the rest of third platoon?”
“We’re it.”
And lastly, Brad Pitt’s “Fury” hold its place in the top three bringing in an estimated $13 million in its second weekend compared to the 23 million Pitt and company managed in the debut.
As for next week, don’t have time to create yet another sequel? Then just re-release the original one.
“Hello, do you wanna play a game?”
Because if it’s Halloween, it’s SAW — no matter what year the movie came out.
