WEST CHESTER — Lock Haven junior running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) was called on 22 times against undefeated and No. 9-ranked West Chester’s rugged defense and responded with 68 yards to go with 19 yards on three pass receptions in a 41-16 loss at John A. Farrell Stadium Saturday.
A crowd of 2,317 saw the Rams improve to 5-0 with their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division win while dropping the Bald Eagles to 0-5 with four league setbacks.
Swales also averaged 18.3 yards on three kickoff returns to take over the team lead in all-purpose yards with 509.
He has logged 83 carries for 261 yards and 16 receptions for 120 yards with one touchdown.

ERIE — Junior longsnapper Eric White (Clearfield) and the Clarion punt unit had a busy afternoon at Tullio Field Saturday as the Mercyhurst defense forced eight kicks in a 28-0 shutout, its first victory in five games.
The Golden Eagles dipped to 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division and 2-3 overall in front of 2,213 fans.
White has one solo tackle.

EDINBORO — Graduate student wide receiver Trey Campman (Clearfield) played for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (4-1) in an 18-8 win over host Edinboro (0-5) that disappointed a crowd of 5,121 at Sox Harrison Stadium Saturday.
The Crimson Hawks tied for second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division at 3-1.
Campman has one solo tackle in five games.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Freshman offensive guard Jon Janocko (Clearfield) saw his first action for Juniata (2-3) in a 56-14 defeat by No. 10-ranked Johns Hopkins (5-0) in a Centennial Conference game that attracted 1,000 fans into Homewood Stadium Saturday.
The Eagles are 1-3 in the conference.

MEN’S GOLF
NEW CASTLE — Thiel freshman Jason Thorp (Curwensville) was tied for seventh place after the first day of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Championships at the New Castle Country Club Sept. 29-30 but wound up in a tie for 20th place with an 80-86-166 performance.
His two-day total was third lowest for the Tomcats, who placed fifth among the eight teams with a 656.
For the first time, the PAC champion and NCAA Division III qualifier will be determined by the combined total in the Fall Championships and the Spring Championships.

BRADFORD — Freshman Brett Gardner (Curwensville) posted an 85 over the Diamond Hawk Country Club layout at Cheektowaga, N.Y., to help Pitt-Bradford claim second place in the D’Youville Invitational on Sept. 27.
He finished eighth overall with the second-best score for the Panthers, whose 355 was bettered only by Medaille in the four-team field.
Gardner turned in a 92 at DuBois Country Club Thursday as the Panthers lowered their total to 350 for fifth place in the seven-team DuBois Collegiate Classic.
Gardner’s score was fourth for the Panthers and 24th overall.

BLOOMSBURG — Graduate student Brooke Mohney (Bigler/Clearfield Area H.S.) had one shot, on goal, in Bloomsburg’s 3-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss to visiting Kutztown Tuesday, Sept. 30.
She has been a starter at forward in nine of her 10 appearances with two goals and 10 shots for the Huskies (4-5-1, 3-5-1 PSAC).

CLARION — Freshman forward Carlie Freeburg (Clearfield) recorded one shot in a reserve role as Clarion ended a five-game winless and scoreless streak with a 2-0 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Mansfield at Memorial Field Saturday.
She also played in a 2-0 loss to Edinboro the previous day.
Freeburg has five shots, one on goal, for the Golden Eagles, now 3-6-1.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Freshman midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) made her first start for Penn State Behrend in a 2-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss to host Franciscan Saturday.
Aleksivich and freshman defender Katie Powers (Clearfield) played in the Lions’ 3-0 victory over Hilbert at Hamburg, N.Y., Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Aleksivich has appeared in 11 games and Powers has played in four.
The Lions are 8-3-1 with a 2-1 AMCC start.
