STATE COLLEGE – Drivers on two more routes in Centre County will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit now that PennDOT has placed radar-controlled speed display signs along the roadways.
Over the past week, PennDOT placed speed display signs at:
- Route 445 (Madisonburg Pike) in the village of Madisonburg.
- Route 3001 (Fisherman’s Paradise Road) near Fishburn Hill Road in Benner Township.
Each of the signs faces southbound traffic and reminds drivers of the 30 mile-per-hour speed limit along those sections of highway. The signs were placed at the request of local officials and will remain in place for about three weeks.
The speed display signs use radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.
Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.
Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in nearly 52 percent of Centre County crashes in 2013.
