Glenn R. Pentz Sr., 77, of (Haytown) Hepburnia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at his residence after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1937 in Hepburnia, he was the son of C. Allen and Elizabeth J. (Poorman) Pentz. He retired from Penelec after 30 years of service.
Mr. Pentz was a life-long member of the Grampian Church of God, where he served on the board of trustees, pulpit committee and as a free dinner server.
He served on the Curwensville school board for 25 years.
He was an avid sports fan.
Mr. Pentz was a founding member of the Curwensville Pony League. He coached for many years for the Curwensville Little League, the Hepburnia Twins baseball team and the Curwensville High School baseball team.
He was the manager of the Curwensville Legion baseball team and played on numerous baseball teams until the age of 55 years. He was instrumental in building the Thorp Twins Memorial Baseball Field.
Mr. Pentz was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State and Curwensville Golden Tide sports fan. He was also an avid deer and turkey hunter and golfer.
On Nov. 29, 1958 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clearfield, he wed Barbara (Miller) Pentz, who survives of Hepburnia.
He’s survived by four children, Glenn R. Pentz Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Dubois; Debra Yarger and her husband, Chris of Sanborn; Shane Pentz and his wife, Laura of Curwensville; and Brad Pentz and his wife, Jessica of Paynesville, Minn.
He’s survived by nine grandchildren, Christopher Yarger and his wife, Courtney of Houtzdale; Matthew Pentz of Seattle, Wash.; Andrew Starr and his wife, Gentri of Clearfield; Shannon Yarger of Sanborn; Taylor Pentz of Greenville, NC; Anthony Starr and Alec Starr, both of Curwensville; and Avery Pentz and Kyler Pentz, both of Paynesville, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper Yarger and Colton Yarger, both of Houtzdale.
He’s also survived by six siblings, Alice Desgalier of Leesburg, Fla.; Rozella Lever and her husband, Jim of Newburg, Ore.; John Pentz and his wife, Liz of Ringgold, Ga.; Ronald “Red” Pentz and his wife, Claire of Hepburnia, Gladys Pinson of Leesburg, Fla.; and Jim Pentz and his wife, Erlinda of Ferndale, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Rachel Hepburn, Dorothy Witherite, Sylvia Yoder, Evelyn Guiher and Velma Luna.
Funeral services for Mr. Pentz will be held at the Grampian Church of God at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Leslie Bloom officiating. Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery in Grampian.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
