DUBOIS – “Fight Back in Black: Girls Night Out 2014” will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the DuBois Mall.
Hosted by The Women’s Health Center of Penn Highlands Healthcare, this may be called Girls Night Out, but it will have information for everyone.
“Fight Back in Black” is about cancer awareness. Not only will it include a fashion show with black attire, it will also include information about various cancers. Each model will have a cancer-awareness color on as an accessory as cancer facts are shared.
“We decided to host this year’s event at the DuBois Mall to open this popular event to a larger number of people,” Lori Rancik, RN and case manager of The Women’s Health Center, said.
Girls Night Out is organized and hosted by Penn Highlands Healthcare hospitals, a member of the Spirit of Women Hospital Network, with support provided by Good Housekeeping magazine.
Spirit of Women is a national network of leading hospitals dedicated to improving women’s lives with innovative health and community programs.
At this event, the Gourmet Kitchen and First Commonwealth Bank will provide light refreshments from The Gourmet Kitchen store.
Stores from the mall – JC Penneys, the Deb Shop, Sears, Christopher and Banks, Maurice’s, Smart Buyers Scrub Outlet and Bon Worth – will provide outfits for fashion show along with downtown DuBois merchants, Trousseaux’s Bridal and Jack’s.
Models will be Penn Highlands Healthcare staff and family members. A T-shirt from the book, “The Fault in our Stars” will be modeled with the book and shirt being given away by Bradley’s Book Outlet.
Other mall stores – the Winery at Wilcox, Claire’s and Your Jewelry Box- will also add to the evening with fun activities.
There will be tables with information from all four Penn Highlands Healthcare mammography departments, Hahne Regional Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society and The Women’s Health Center.
Adagio Health will also have a table to explain to women who are without insurance to cover a mammogram how to get a free test.
For those who are cancer survivors – recently diagnosed or long-time ones – the Breast Cancer Support Group of Penn Highlands DuBois, the Ovarian Cancer Support Group of DuBois and Us TOO prostate cancer support group will have information.
And several healthcare professionals will be on hand to meet the public. They include Paulette Schrieber, women’s health nurse practitioner, St. Marys; Dr. Thomas Carnavale and Deb DeMuro of obstetrics and gynecology from PH Clearfield; Dr. Ryan Rice, plastic surgeon; Susan Mitchell, nurse practitioner from The Lung Center of PH DuBois; Dr. Alexander Batchev of obstetrics and gynecology from PH Elk; Dr. Daniel Perri, general surgeon from PH Brookville; Dr. Richard Williams, radiologist from PH Clearfield; and Dr. Kathy Elizeus and Dr. Ioanna Kanellitsas, obstetrics and gynecology from PH DuBois. “Fight Back in Black is a unique, festive event designed for women to come together while simultaneously learning about critical health and wellness information,” Rancik said.
”We all know that good health is your best fashion accessory, and we hope women will leave this event ready to activate positive change for themselves and their families.”
