Roy W. Van Scoyoc Sr., 92, of Morann went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at the Graystone at Bellmeade Manor, Altoona.
He was born July 25, 1922 in Tubbs Crossing, Madera, a son of the late Frank W. and Olie Mae (Bloom) Van Scoyoc.
He was a 1940 graduate of the former Madera High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in World War II with Battery C 195th Field Artillery.
In his early years, he worked as a clay miner, coal miner and a farmer. He later worked in construction as a carpenter and at the Curwensville Post Office.
Mr. Scoyoc became a licensed pastor and served the Ginter Baptist Church for 14 years and then at the Richland Bible Church in Dysart for 14 years.
He was a minister and loved sharing God’s word. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, reading, coin-collecting and especially family gatherings.
On July 27, 1946 in the Williamsport United Methodist Church, he married Margaretta (Alsop) Van Scoyoc. Her uncle, the Rev. Robert Croyle, presided over the service; she preceded him in death on July 25, 2011.
Mr. Scoyoc had six children, the late Roy Wesley Van Scoyoc Sr. and his wife, Debbie and their children, Edward and John; Dennis A. Van Scoyoc Sr. and his wife, Linda of Tyrone and their children, Dennis Jr. and Rebecca; Virginia L. Demko of Madera and her children, Lori Ann and Bryan; Jo Ann Carowick and her husband, Michael of Huntingdon and their children, Angela, Thomas and Emily; Susan K. Gray and her husband, Maynard of Tyrone and her children, Scott and Benjamin Gummo and her step-children, Matthew, Michael, Julianne and Nicholas; and the late Ronald G. Van Scoyoc Sr. and his wife, Laura and their children, Ronald Jr., and Heidi and his step-children, Jessica and Christopher.  He’s’ also survived by 18 great –grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, wife and sons, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, John and Herbert Van Scoyoc and five sisters, Berneath Swartz, Myrtle Bloom, Alta Blankley, Edith Keith and Hazel Van Scoyoc.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brisbin Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Melhorn officiating.
Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey, with military honors being accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Brisbin Baptist Church or The Church That Meets in Ramey.
