TYRONE – Tyrone Hospital will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a community picnic and event.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be held on the Tyrone Regional Health Network campus in Tyrone from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
“We are a community hospital that was created by the community. We have been providing essential healthcare services to area residents for 60 years. Tyrone Hospital has also had tremendous community support throughout its history. That is a lot to be thankful for and a lot to celebrate,” said Kelly Wike, president of the Tyrone Hospital Board of Directors.
The 60th anniversary event will include free food served from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. The free entertainment will feature performances at 5 p.m. by both the Tyrone Area High School Varsity cheerleaders and Bellwood-Antis High School Varsity cheerleaders.
A concert will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. with music provided by Felix and the Hurricanes. Those who attend the concert are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for seating for the entertainment.
Food and entertainment will be located in front of and near the Tyrone Health and Wellness Building. A portion of the Tyrone History Museum’s special exhibit “Tyrone Hospital: Celebrating 60 Years” will also be on display in Tyrone Hospital’s main lobby during the event.
There will plenty of activities for children to enjoy from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in a special kids zone that will be located in front of Tyrone Hospital. Children’s activities will include a bounce house, face painting, tours of fire trucks and a chance to meet real fire fighters from both the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Department (HOOKIES) of Tyrone and the Excelsior Volunteer Fire Department of Bellwood.
There will also be a fun- and health-oriented scavenger hunt for children, which will start at 4:30 p.m.
The anniversary celebration will also be the last chance for people to enter the Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute (BCWHI) Pink Out Photo Contest before contest voting begins.
The photo contest is a fundraiser to support BCWHI’s Breast Cancer Voucher Program, which provides financial support to women with breast cancer who are uninsured or underinsured. Individual photos may be entered into the contest for a $1 donation and group photos for a $5 donation.
Staff will be on hand in front of the Tyrone Health and Wellness Building for the duration of the anniversary celebration to take photos. An assortment of pink gear will also be provided for people to use to “Pink Out” for their contest photo.
