LOCK HAVEN — Junior running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) caught a 10-yard touchdown pass for the final points in Lock Haven’s 27-16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss to Seton Hill that disappointed most of the 1,003 fans at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday.
The TD with 5:05 remaining was the fourth of his three-year career for the Bald Eagles, who are off to an 0-2 start.
Swales grabbed five passes out of the backfield for 43 yards but was held to 28 yards on 14 carries by the stingy Seton Hill (1-1) defense that held Lock Haven to 66 yards on the ground.
Swales also returned two kickoffs for 63 yards.
His season totals are 36 rushes for 106 yards, seven receptions for 51 yards and four kickoff returns for a 23-yard average.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Freshman linebacker Christian Lezzer (Clearfield) recorded a sack in his first appearance for Boston College (2-1), and it came in one of the biggest wins in the program’s history as the Eagles upset No. 9-ranked and 2-0 Southern Cal 37-31 Saturday night.
With the Trojans facing third-and-10 on the first possession of the game, Lezzer tackled quarterback Cody Kessler for a nine-yard loss and the first of five sacks by the Eagle defense that surrendered only 20 rushing yards after allowing 303 to Pittsburgh the previous week.
The shocking victory in front of 41,632 fans in Alumni Stadium was Boston College’s first in five meetings with USC and the Eagles’ first in a decade over a Top-10 team.
Boston College had not beaten a team ranked in the top 25 since 2008.

KUTZTOWN — Graduate student Trey Campman (Clearfield) saw action at wide receiver and on punt coverage for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a stunning 44-7 loss to Kutztown in front of 1,602 fans at University Field Saturday.
The 1-1 Crimson Hawks had entered the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener for both teams ranked No. 20 in American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll and No. 22 in the D-2Football.com Media Poll.

MILLERSVILLE — Junior longsnapper Eric White (Clearfield) was on the Biemsderfer Stadium for eight extra points and four punts as Clarion rolled past Millersville 55-16 in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener Saturday.
A crowd of 1,175 saw the Golden Eagles balance their record at 1-1.
White had one solo tackle for the punt unit in Clarion’s first game.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BLOOMSBURG — Graduate student Brooke Mohney (Bigler/Clearfield Area H.S.) was a starting forward for Bloomsburg in 1-0 victories over No. 17-ranked Gannon at Steph Pettit Stadium last Wednesday and over Mercyhurst at Erie Saturday that leveled its season and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record at 2-2.
Both opponents were ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division Atlantic Region Poll, Gannon (2-1, 2-1 PSAC) at No. 2 and Mercyhurst (2-2, 2-2) at No. 5.
Mohney has two shots, both on goal, in four starts for the Huskies.

CLARION — Freshman forward Carlee Freeburg (Clearfield) registered two shots, one on goal, as Clarion shut out Pitt-Johnstown 4-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
She has logged three shots as a reserve for the Golden Eagles, who are 2-2 in their four PSAC outings, including a 3-0 loss to Seton Hill (2-0, 2-0) at Greensburg last Wednesday.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Freshman midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) had one of Penn State Behrend’s eight shots on goal, her first for the Lions, in last Wednesday’s 3-1 non-conference win over host Mount Union.
She has appeared in every game for the 5-1 Lions, who were ranked sixth, up one place, in the weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of American/Continental Tire Great Lakes Region Poll.

LORETTO — St. Francis sophomore Rebecca Johnson (Grampian/Curwensville Area H.S.) placed 17th among 33 runners in the Father Bede Invitational at the Immergun Golf Club Saturday morning.
Her time for the 5,000-meter course was 22.23.40.
