CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield couple has been jailed for allegedly stealing an assault rifle from the Bob’s Army & Navy store, according to the Clearfield Borough police.
Police received a complaint about the alleged theft of an AK-47 assault rifle that occurred on or about Sept. 13. The rifle, police said, was taken from a display rack located in the gun department.
According to police, a male allegedly concealed the rifle and left the store without paying for it. However, police identified a female and male who were shown in store surveillance video as Amy Welker and Douglas Marshall Jr., both of Clearfield.
Welker was questioned about the alleged theft incident at the Bob’s Army & Navy store. Welker admitted that she and her boyfriend, Marshall, were in the store together on the date in question.
She told police that they were shopping in the store and looking at items for a while with a juvenile male. Afterward she said they left the store to walk home.
Welker also had information on her cellular phone, indicating they had planned to commit retail theft while at the Bob’s Army & Navy store. Welker was charged with conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors.
Welker was arraigned with her bail being set at $50,000 straight. Welker was unable to post bail and incarcerated at the Clearfield County Jail.
Police obtained a warrant for Marshall, who was located at his apartment on East Eighth Street. He was taken into custody by Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township police.
Marshall was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors. The rifle, police said, was also located at Marshall’s residence when he was taken into custody. Marshall was arraigned with his bail being set at $75,000 straight.
