John Eugene “Gene” Deitman, 69, of DuBois died at his home on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014.
He was born Jan. 25, 1945 in Indiana, Pa., the son of the late John Edward and Agnes “Avy” (McCullough) Deitman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had been a founding partner of O.C.I. Division of Global Drilling Suppliers Inc. in Brookville.
He previously worked for Star Iron Works of Big Run. He loved to work and valued the friendship of his co-workers. His jobs required extensive travel within the United States, Central and South America and Asia.
In his early years, he was a brick and stone mason. He made friends everywhere he went because of his sense of humor, quick wit and infectious laugh.
In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish and spend time at his camp. Above all else, he cherished his family.
He’s survived by his wife, Janice Myers Deitman; a daughter, Beth Ann Landini of DuBois; and son, Chris Deitman of Elbridge, NY. His grandchildren are Ryan Wilson, Brandon Landini, Nathan Landini, John Deitman and Amanda Deitman and his step-grandchildren are Bill Martens and Emily Martens.
He also left behind a brother, Donald Deitman and his wife, Barbara of Oxford, NJ; a sister, Susan Deitman Miller of Cookport; a nephew, Bill Deitman and his wife, Lucinda of Georgia; and a niece, Kelly Deitman of Colorado.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church with Pastors Amy Miller and John Miller co-officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Indiana, Pa.
