Clearfield Marching Band Completes Ice Bucket Challenge
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area High School Bison Marching band members, under the direction of Raymond Mandell, were nominated by the Moshannon Valley Black Knights marching band to compete in the Ice Bucket challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS.
Curwensville Man Sentenced in Rape Case
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man will serve up to 40 years in state prison for raping a 13-year-old girl.
Jeremie Thomas Suhoney Sr., 38, 421 Walnut St., Curwensville, pleaded guilty during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County to rape, statutory sexual assault, two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, three counts of aggravated indecent assault, criminal attempt/involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, criminal attempt/aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors.
Woman Gets State Prison for Selling Heroin
CLEARFIELD – An area woman accused of selling heroin on seven, different occasions was sentenced to state prison during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Melissa Daniell Padgett, 28, 1920 Dorey St. Ext., Clearfield, pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, and criminal use of communication facility in one case and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of communication facility in six additional cases.

Charitable Foundation Grant Applications Available
CLEARFIELD – Applications are now being accepted for the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation’s 2014 grant cycle for Clearfield County non-profit organizations.
To be eligible for a grant award, applying agencies/organizations must provide services in local communities and be located within Clearfield County. The deadline for submission of grant applications is Nov. 3. Awards will be announced by January of 2015.
Gabler to Host Concealed Carry Seminar
ST. MARYS – State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) will host a concealed carry permit seminar on Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at The Red Fern Banquet Hall, 421 Old Kersey Rd., Kersey.
“We had a great turnout in March for the DuBois seminar and decided to hold one in another section of the 75th Legislative District,” Gabler said.
LT Supers Consider Zoning Change Request
CLEARFIELD – Cliff Reed of Hydrospray Wash Systems Inc., Clearfield, with his attorney Dwight “Skip” Koerber Jr., presented a request for a change of zoning for a segment along the Rockton Mountain Highway that’s currently zoned “village.”

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — A judge is reviewing a request by two media organizations to release any possible juvenile records of the unarmed 18-year-old who was killed by a police officer last month in suburban St. Louis.
WJAC-TV: Police: Child Reported People Being Killed at St. Marys High School
ST. MARYS – St. Marys police say a 9-year-old child called the 9-1-1 center on Tuesday and reported people being killed at the St. Marys Area High School, according to WJAC-TV.
That call prompted the large police and emergency response to the school yesterday. Police say the child’s age prohibits them from prosecuting the child.
Corbett Administration Advances Pennsylvania Tourism Partnership
HARRISBURG – The Corbett Administration continues to make progress to strengthen Pennsylvania’s tourism industry through the Pennsylvania Tourism Partnership and the continued progress of a 17-member steering committee that will integrate the public and private sectors to elevate Pennsylvania as a premier tourism destination.
CLEARFIELD – A man accused of selling heroin waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Harry Victor Nelson III, 37, of Altoona has been charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; criminal use of a communication facility; intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail is currently set at $50,000 monetary.
NEW BETHLEHEM (EYT) – New sex charges have been filed against a New Bethlehem man who was jailed last week on rape charges.

Former Lottery Winner Pleads Guilty to Stealing from Coal Company
CLEARFIELD – A former lottery winner has pleaded guilty to repeatedly stealing from a coal company in Clearfield County Court.
Ricky Lee Hutton, 57, 624 Colorado Rd., Munson, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and deviant trespass.
