Joan A. Aveni, 71, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014 at Clearfield Penn Highlands.
She was born July 21, 1943, a daughter of the late William C. Lanich and Nellie (Smith) Lanich Benjamin.
She retired as supervisor for the state Department of Transportation after 30 years of employment.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, and a former member of the Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Aveni, whom she wed April 27, 1974; a step-daughter, Jennifer Harford of Reynoldsville; six grandchildren, Jessica Komonzi, Ashley Harford, Kristin Johnson, Joseph J. Aveni, Frank Aveni and Emily Aveni; three great-grandchildren, Micah and Joshua Johnson and Maxwell Aveni; and a sister, Judy Gardner and her husband, Jack of Clearfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-son, Joseph Aveni and four brothers, Tom, Leo, Merle and Edwin ‘Skip’ Lanich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Fr. John L. Miller III as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield. A Christian Vigil service will be said at 4:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield.
