Ralph E. “Jake” Schnarrs, 69, of Houtzdale and formerly of Philipsburg and New Jersey, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born March 22, 1945 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Steele) Schnarrs. He married the former Rose H. Campbell on March 4, 1967; she survives at home.
Mr. Schnarrs was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Philipsburg. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Madera Lodge, No. 1172.
He was formerly employed as a mechanic for the Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ. He was then employed as a custodian for the Clinton Township Board of Education in Clinton, NJ until his retirement.
He was a graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Along with his wife, Mr. Schnarrs is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. DeFago and her husband, Jason of Eden, Ga. and Renee A. Schnarrs of Philipsburg and two sons, Kenneth Jake Schnarrs and his wife, Nancy of Spring City and Aaron L. Schnarrs and his wife, Amee of Turnersville, NJ.
He’s also survived by two sisters, Armeda Sawtelle and Jean Smith and her husband, David, both of RD Philipsburg; a brother Kenneth Schnarrs of Biloxi, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Scott R. Hartsock officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg, Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the memorial service at the funeral home.
