David F. Kassab, 86, of Midlothian, Va. and formerly of Houtzdale, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living, Midlothian, Va.
Born Aug. 27, 1928 in Houtzdale, he was the son of George and Julia (Abod) Kassab.
He was a graduate of Tri State University and employed as a civil engineer for the federal government until his retirement.
He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, and the National Horse Racing Association.
He served with the U.S. Army Infantry Division during the Korean War.
Surviving are three brothers, Gabriel Kassab and his wife, Gertrude and Raymond Kassab and his wife, Anna Marie, both of Pittsburgh and George Kassab and his wife, Sarah Jane of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Betty Chew and her husband, William of Bethehem; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jacob Kassab; and, five sisters, Hazel Kassab, Ceil Remesilnick, Kay Hocking, Minnie Grove and Theresa Brennan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Father Marc Solomon as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
Family and friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
