Curwensville Blueprint Team to Host Town Hall Meeting
CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Area Blueprint Communities Team has announced it will host a town hall meeting on Sept. 3.
The town hall meeting will be held from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Curwensville Community Center. The center is located at 11 Stadium Dr., Curwensville.
New Students Serve Communities on Outreach Day
DUBOIS – As part of New Student Orientation, more than 150 freshmen and more than 30 faculty and staff group leaders participated in the Penn State DuBois Community Outreach Day on Friday.
The day began in the campus gymnasium where students were broken into groups and assigned a service site. Each group was led by a campus faculty or staff member, as well as a student orientation leader, who then took students to their work site for the day.
Matthews to Speak at Historical Society Dinner
DUBOIS – Former DuBois resident Delores “Dee” Matthews will be the guest speaker at the 32nd annual dinner of the DuBois Area Historical Society.
The dinner is scheduled for Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church. The church is located at 875 Sunflower Dr., DuBois.
Clearfield United Way Gears Up for Annual Campaign, Provides “Jeans for Teens”
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way has started gearing up for its annual campaign, according to Chairman Mark Schultz and Chief Professional Officer Nancy Pinto.
The CAUW’s annual campaign will kick off in October. However, volunteers have already started preparing letters and pledge cards seeking donations.
Board members hope individuals will consider making a donation, even if they do not receive a letter with a pledge card. Donations can be mailed to CAUW, 18 N. Second St., Suite 4, P.O. Box 1430, Clearfield, PA 16830.
Penn State DuBois Raises $13 Million in For the Future Campaign
DUBOIS – The most significant fundraising effort in Penn State’s history, For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students has generated $13.283 million in support for Penn State DuBois, surpassing the $12 million campus goal.
For all of Penn State, the total came in at $2.158 billion in private support. Penn State is one of only 12 public universities in the nation to have ever exceeded a $2 billion campaign goal, receiving support from 167,500 alumni, the most alumni donors to any campaign in the country.

School Officials Dedicate Clearfield Area Elementary
CLEARFIELD – On Monday evening, the administration and board of directors of the Clearfield Area School District gathered with community members to dedicate the newly renovated and expanded Clearfield Area Elementary School.
Starting this school year, the district’s students will be consolidated into two campuses. The district has invested approximately $35 million to renovate and expand the former Clearfield Area High School into a junior-senior high campus for seventh through 12th grades. The new Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School was dedicated on Aug. 18.
Blighted Property Owner Strikes a Deal with DuBois City Council
DUBOIS – The property owner of 505 W. Long Ave., a blighted property which has been under scrutiny from the DuBois City Council and City Zoning Officer Zac Lawhead, struck a deal with council members during Monday night’s meeting.
After debating with the council and disputing the amount of work/progress to the site; the property owner was finally able to come to an agreement, which focused around all construction material being removed from the site within 30 days. This agreement came just before the issue was set to be elevated to the magistrate on Sept. 1.
BELLEFONTE – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) is calling on the Senate to take action on a series of House-passed bills that would improve the mental health of veterans and active military and address the unemployment disparity facing the nation’s veteran population.
Thompson’s remarks came in response to a series of proposed executive actions announced by President Barack Obama that are designed to support the health and well-being of veterans and service members.
Commissioners OK Grant Modifications, Application for Victim Witness Program
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved modifications to the Victim Witness program’s current Victims of Crime Act and Rights and Services Act grants.
The commissioners also approved a new application for the Victim Witness program for Pennsylvania’s RASA funds for the upcoming 2015-16 year.
Trial Under Way for Financial Advisor Accused of Stealing from Client
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the three-day trial got under way for a financial advisor accused of stealing $120,000 from an elderly client in order to pay off a business debt.
Frank C. Stewart, 48, of Ramey is facing charges of forgery, two counts; theft by unlawful taking; and theft by deception. He’s free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
NEW BETHLEHEM (EYT) – State police at Clarion have filed rape and related charges against a 24-year-old man after an alleged incident that occurred yesterday in the New Bethlehem area.
On Wednesday around 10:37 p.m., Trooper William Craddock was informed about a 20-year-old Clearfield woman who contacted Clarion-based state police to report that “she had just been raped.” She was also following the man who had allegedly raped her.
CLEARFIELD – The trial continued yesterday in Clearfield County Court for a man accused of stealing $120,000 from an elderly client while serving as a financial advisor.
