PENFIELD- This fall Parker Dam State Park will again be offering programs for Webelos Cub Scouts interested in completing the requirements for the “Naturalist” and “Forester” activity pins.
Requirements for each of the awards will be covered during each of the individual programs, but, parents or den leaders will be the ones to sign off on the completion of individual scouts’ requirements.
“Naturalist” programs will be offered on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m., and on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. Scouts need only attend one of the sessions to cover the requirements of the Naturalist pin.
“Forester” programs will be offered on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. and on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. Scouts need only attend one of the sessions to cover the requirements of the Forester pin.
Participants of each program will meet at the Environmental Education Classroom, located next to the Park Office, and should be prepared for the program to last approximately 2-2.5 hours.
Participants should also be prepared for several outdoor activities, rain or shine. Parents and den leaders are welcome to stay during the programs, but are not required to do so.
Participants must pre-register for any of the “Naturalist” or “Forester” programs at www.visitPAparks.com by clicking on “Events Calendar,” selecting “Parker Dam State Park” as the facility, selecting the program and date of their choice, and completing the requested information.
Please note that registered participants will be required, and directed how, to pay a $3 registration fee following the online registration.
Registration is not complete until the fee is paid, and uncompleted/unpaid registration spaces will be forfeited to scouts on the waiting list seven days prior to the scheduled program. This procedure is to try to eliminate the issue of fully registered programs with several scouts who do not show up, leaving other scouts on the waiting list no opportunity to attend.
Registration fees are also not refundable within seven days of the registered program. You may register single scouts or entire Webelos dens, but please do not register scouts that you do not know for sure are planning to participate because space is very limited.
Registrations will be accepted from now until seven days prior to each program. If you have any questions, or if you have difficulty registering online, please contact the Park Office at 814-765-0630 to speak to the Environmental Education Specialist.
